Alrighty, I’ve finally finished sorting and processing my shots from Grange Over Sands and the Lake District. I didn’t get out as much as I had hoped due to bad weather, but I still got some nice shots which I hope you’ll enjoy.

Consider this post to be 1 of 2. This will highlight Grange Over Sands, whilst my next post will be focussed on the Lakes themselves and the mountainous countryside.

Grange Over Sands is a small town that was once a small fishing village and has been a popular tourist destination ever since a train line was established. It’s located at the mouth of the River Kent, which once flowed past the town promenade. The river has altered course over the years and now the promenade has become a lush meadow covered by tides that sheep occasionally graze (pictured below).

And there we have it! I hope you’ve enjoyed the images. Keep an eye out for ‘Part 2’, coming soon.

Justin.

Happy New Year 2014!

A big Happy New Year to all! I wish you the best for 2014 and may you make it ‘your year’ to shine and achieve.

I will be travelling for another four months before I head back home to Australia and travel for a further month before getting back to the real world.

I’ll leave you with this image I snapped last night just after the clock hit 12am and the new year rolled in. You see, in the UK fireworks are still legal for your everyday citizen to buy off the shelf (unlike Australia). As soon as the clock struck 12am, fireworks started popping up all over the place. There was no official fireworks display made by the town, but its citizens really took it into their own hands. It was unlike any other fireworks display I’ve seen before.

Happy New Year!

Have a great New Year!

Photos: Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire

As promised, here are some of my favourites that I recently took at Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire. We walked here on Boxing Day and it was a stunning! It had been a clear night and there was frost everywhere (as you’ll be able to see in some of the pics below). The temperature stayed cold throughout the day and the frost remained wherever there was shade to hide it from the sunshine.

Every year on boxing day there is a pilgrimage from the nearby town of Aldfield. They start walking from the town church and end up at Fountains Abbey – a walk that is a few miles long. Because of this, there were hundreds of people out and about enjoying the sunshine on this particular day.

I try to avoid getting people in my photo’s as much as possible, so there aren’t many to be seen in these shots.

Keep an eye out as I’ll have some shots of the Lake District coming up in the next day or two 🙂

Made it to the Lake District, Cumbria

Doorway to Heaven

I’ve made it to the Lake District in Cumbria, United Kingdom! The weather is nice so far and it looks like it might even hold off today before more rain appears over the next few days (Really, I just want snow!).

I’ll be doing lots of walks and treks in the area so will have lots to show over the next couple of days. Watch this space!

Photos: Morning Frost

There’s nothing quite like waking up to a clear sky morning and looking outside to see everything covered in a glistening coat of white. Yesterday was one of those mornings. On top of this, I visited Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire – an amazing abbey ruin and grounds that have been well preserved by the UK National Trust.

The pics of the Fountains Abbey itself will have to wait however, as first I have some pics to share of just the frost.

Hope you all enjoy!
